Overview

John L. Leifert is Of Counsel at Shaub, Ahmuty, Citrin & Spratt, LLP, where he focuses his practice on the defense of physicians, hospitals, healthcare systems and other medical professionals in complex medical malpractice litigation. With nearly three decades of experience handling healthcare and personal injury matters throughout New York, from both sides of the aisle, he brings a comprehensive perspective to medical malpractice defense.

John manages all aspects of medical malpractice defense litigation from inception through trial, including case evaluation, motion practice, depositions, expert witness coordination, settlement negotiations, trial preparation and courtroom advocacy. His extensive experience allows him to assess liability and damages issues strategically while developing practical, cost-effective solutions for clients facing high-exposure claims. He will avoid trial if possible, and take a verdict if necessary.

Before joining SACS, John’s practice for 20 years was based in Westchester, where he handled medical malpractice defense matters through all stages of litigation. Earlier in his career, John gained valuable experience representing plaintiffs in medical malpractice and personal injury litigation in New York City, which gave him a unique understanding of case development, risk assessment and litigation strategy from both sides of the courtroom.

Throughout his career, John has successfully managed complex caseloads, conducted extensive discovery, taken and defended depositions of medical professionals and expert witnesses, drafted and argued dispositive motions and brought cases to trial. His broad litigation background enables him to identify key issues early and effectively advocate for favorable outcomes for his clients.

John's depth of medical malpractice experience, practical litigation skills and balanced understanding of plaintiff and defense strategies strengthen SACS's healthcare litigation practice and provide clients with trusted counsel on challenging, high-stakes matters.
