With experience spanning healthcare systems, corporate legal departments, and community-based service organizations, Karen Alexander offers a well-rounded perspective that enhances her work. She brings a multidisciplinary background in healthcare law, contract negotiation, and client service to SACS, where she supports the firm’s litigation practice with strong analytical skills and a commitment to thoughtful, detail-driven advocacy.
As a 3L, Karen served as a legal extern for a major hospital system’s Office of Legal Affairs and Risk Management, where she evaluated legal and regulatory issues affecting one of the nation’s largest healthcare systems. In this role, Karen conducted extensive legal research on emerging medical and compliance matters, contributed insights into case strategy, monitored healthcare professional liability trials, and collaborated with attorneys on risk mitigation and policy development, an experience that informs her work with healthcare providers today.
Karen also gained valuable in-house experience as a legal intern at a technology company, reviewing and processing terms for more than 400 customer contracts and revising Master Service Agreements to reflect current operational needs. She assisted the General Counsel with RFPs and analyzed contractual positions to reduce legal exposure, strengthening her understanding of complex commercial relationships and regulatory compliance.
Committed to service, Karen volunteered with the Nassau County Bar Association’s Mortgage Foreclosure Project, assisting attorneys in providing pro bono support to clients facing housing instability. She conducted client intake, organized documentation, and contributed to strategic planning for loan modifications, repayment plans, and foreclosure defenses.
Through close connections with those in the healthcare field, she has gained valuable experience and insight into the operational, regulatory, and human challenges faced by medical professionals. This perspective allows her to provide clients with practical guidance and a nuanced understanding of how legal matters affect both healthcare systems and the professionals who deliver care.
